🌸 Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom Near Oakville

burlingtondowntown.ca
Cherry blossom season has officially arrived, and Burlington is putting on a show. As of April 30, the delicate pink and white blooms are at peak at two local hotspots: Spencer Smith Park and the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG), both just a short trip from Oakville.
At Spencer Smith Park (1400 Lakeshore Road, Burlington), visitors can enjoy a stroll along the limestone walkway beneath a graceful cherry blossom arch. With Lake Ontario as the backdrop, it’s a perfect spot to take in the blooms and soak up some sunshine right in the city centre.
The Royal Botanical Gardens (680 Plains Road West) also offers a spectacular display. Cherry trees there are in full bloom across the Arboretum and Rock Garden. RBG has been documenting bloom times for years as part of phenology, a science used to track climate patterns.
Each location offers its own charm, but don’t wait too long. These blooms won’t last!
📍 Have Your Say: Two Key Oakville Projects, One Night

neighbourhoodguide.com
Got thoughts on how Oakville should grow or how its historic neighbourhoods should be preserved? Join the Town of Oakville for a public open house on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakville Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Road).
You'll get a chance to weigh in on two important planning projects:
Uptown Core Growth Area Review: See two early concepts for how the Uptown Core could develop in the future and tell the town what works (and what doesn’t). Your feedback will help shape the next steps before Council reviews anything later this year. An online survey will be live closer to the event.
Zoning in Heritage Conservation Districts: If you live in or care about Old Oakville, First and Second Street, or Trafalgar Road, this is your chance to learn about and give input on proposed zoning updates. Displays will cover topics like building heights, setbacks, and more. The online survey is open until May 19.
No sign-up needed, just drop in and have your voice heard.

🧪 Curiosity Cube Comes to Oakville Farmer’s Market

Oakville News
Science and spring fun come together this Saturday, May 3, as MilliporeSigma’s Curiosity Cube rolls into town for the grand opening of the Oakville Civitan Farmer’s Market (240 North Service Rd.). The mobile science lab will be on site from 8 am to 1:30 pm, offering hands-on A.I. and STEM activities for curious young minds.
Now in its seventh annual tour, the Curiosity Cube is designed to make science engaging and accessible. Kids can explore artificial intelligence through interactive exhibits and connect with real scientists from MilliporeSigma, whose local facilities include sites in Oakville, Burlington, and Mississauga.
The event is open to the public and kicks off the farmer’s market season with a mix of fresh local goods and exciting educational experiences. It’s a great way to spend the morning while inspiring the next generation of scientists.
🌳 $10K Grant Helps Oakvillegreen Expand Tree Canopy

Inside Halton
Oakvillegreen Conservation Association will plant 400 new trees in 2025 thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Oakville Community Foundation (OCF). The funding supports the Oakville Urban Tree Initiative, aimed at boosting local tree coverage, promoting climate awareness, and building community connections.
Four planting events will take place across Oakville, two in spring and two in fall, with over 160 volunteers already lined up. The effort responds to OCF’s 2024 climate report, which found uneven canopy coverage across the town.
“The Oakville Community Foundation is very committed to helping build out our tree canopy,” said board member Lisa Kohler. The goal is to reach 40 per cent canopy coverage in Oakville by 2047.
Residents can support by volunteering at future events or joining OCF’s tree pledge to help fund ongoing plantings.
