🏃 Oakville Terry Fox Run Returns

The 45th annual Oakville Terry Fox Run hits Coronation Park on Sunday, Sept. 14, with registration at 9am and the run starting at 10am. Participants can choose from 2km, 5km, or 10km lakeside routes, with options to walk, bike, board, or simply cheer from the sidelines. This year’s theme, “Finish It,” echoes Fox’s call for Canadians to carry on his Marathon of Hope for cancer research.
T-shirts, donation tap machines, and tribute signs will be available on-site, and teams are encouraged to register online or in person that morning. Parking remains limited around the park, so carpooling is advised. With over $6 million raised locally since 1982, Oakville organizers hope to hit a $200,000 target this year, saying this goal could be achieved if every Oakville resident contributed $1.00.
📅 High School Calendars Released
Parents, the full 2025–26 calendars are now available from both Halton school boards. You’ll find everything you need to plan the year ahead, including PA days, holidays, breaks, and exam periods for your child’s school.
(p.s. the first day of school is September 3rd)
🏛️ A Piece of Local History Still at Risk
Halton plans to shut down its heritage services by 2026, and Bronte historian Maryanne Mason warns that could put local history at risk. She recalls a basement flood at Sovereign House, a small museum in Bronte, where thousands of artifacts were nearly lost. With expert help from regional staff, volunteers were able to rescue, organize, and preserve the collection.
That kind of support may soon disappear. Halton’s 30,000 artifacts could be handed off to local museums or sold at auction. Over 1,500 residents have signed a petition urging the region to reconsider, worried that smaller communities and lesser-known stories will be overlooked. The region says heritage work is simply shifting to towns like Oakville, but many doubt local groups have the capacity to take it on.

🥈 Grayson Long Grabs Silver in Latvia
Quick update on Oakville’s Grayson Long, who we told you last week was heading to Latvia for the Junior Grand Prix, he’s coming home with a silver medal! The 17-year-old landed on the podium with a score of 221.71, finishing just behind Japan’s Rio Nakata. Grayson said the nerves hit hard after the short program, but staying focused paid off.
This adds to an already strong season for him, with gold at NextGen and silver at the Cranberry Cup. Looks like this rising star is just getting started. Check out his performance up above. ⬆️
🎬 Hollywood Hits Halton (Again)
Wait, a TV show is filming here? Yep - CBS’s Sheriff Country is back in town this week, turning parts of north Oakville and downtown Milton into fictional Edgewater, California. It’s the fourth time in recent months, and this round includes car crash scenes, fake farmers’ markets, and temporary road closures.
The new series stars Morena Baccarin from Deadpool and hits screens this fall. Keep your eyes peeled, you might spot a familiar street on primetime.
