A six-storey affordable housing project proposed for 1493 Sixth Line is drawing both praise and pushback. Developer Blake Hampton-Davies of Innovative SHS envisions 190 units for single mothers, domestic violence survivors, and others in need, with on-site support from groups like Home Suite Hope and Halton Women’s Place. The building would also include a daycare and nonprofit offices, with 35 units planned as rent-geared-to-income.

While supporters call it a vital lifeline, some nearby residents argue it’s too much for the area. Concerns over traffic, school proximity, and a “built-form mismatch” have been raised, with councillors urging design revisions. Town staff will review the plan before council makes a final decision.

Bronte is launching a brand-new holiday event with a distinctly Canadian twist this Saturday, Nov. 22, from 3-7pm at Bronte Market Square. The Bronte BIA’s “At Home in Bronte for the Holidays” promises an afternoon of festive cheer, curling rinks, live music, treats from local food trucks, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Activities include wreath and slime workshops, a holiday market, and a 5:30pm community tree lighting. Guests are encouraged to bring donations for The Salvation Army Oakville’s Christmas Kettle Campaign.

Downtown Oakville kicked off the holiday season in grand style Friday night with its biggest tree lighting yet. Thousands gathered in Towne Square to see the new 45-foot Norway Spruce sparkle to life, complete with 25,000 lights and a one-tonne base engineered to support its massive weight. It’s the largest Christmas tree ever installed downtown.

The “Light Up the Night” celebration also featured hot chocolate, carriage rides, live music, and crafts. Local dignitaries including Mayor Rob Burton and Oakville’s MPs and MPP were on hand for the lighting, which capped a festive and well-attended evening.

It’s a landmark year for Oakville’s performing arts scene, with Burloak Theatre Group and West End Studio Theatre earning a record-setting 35 nominations at the 2025 Broadway World Toronto Awards. All four nominated productions were staged at the Oakville Centre, highlighting the town’s growing status in the GTA theatre community.

Burloak led with 27 nods across Company, Matilda, and Sweat, including Best Musical and Best Play. WEST made history with seven nominations for Twelve Angry Men, including first-time recognition for artistic director Yo Mustafa.
