🏗️ New Lakeshore Build Gets Green Light
A new 11-storey building is coming to the corner of Lakeshore Road West and Chisholm Street, after the Ontario Land Tribunal approved the project, even though the town and local residents pushed back. The development will include 152 apartments, shops on the ground floor, underground parking, and a rooftop terrace. The old McCraney-Robertson house will be torn down, but a public courtyard will mark its place.
The town had a five-storey height limit for the area, but the tribunal said taller buildings already exist nearby and the location is well-connected to transit. It also pointed to Oakville’s big housing goal of adding 33,000 new units by 2031. Councillor Cathy Duddeck said she’s “very disappointed,” after years of local input were overruled in favour of the developer’s plan.
🥾 Snowshoe at Crawford Lake
If you're itching to get outside this winter, snowshoeing is a fun and easy way to explore nature while getting a solid workout. Just a short drive from Oakville, Crawford Lake Conservation Area in Milton is offering guided weekend snowshoe tours from Jan. 10 to Feb. 16, perfect for anyone looking to try something new.
Tours run at 11am, 1pm and 2pm, taking visitors through forest trails and past the park’s reconstructed 15th-century Longhouse Village. Along the way, guides share how Indigenous communities once relied on snowshoes for travel and hunting. Afterward, warm up with hot chocolate and marshmallows by the fire. Tickets are $15 and include snowshoe rentals for adults and kids aged eight and up.
❄️ Volunteers Needed for 2026 Coldest Walk
Front Line Outreach is looking for volunteers to help out at the 2026 Coldest Night of the Year walk, happening on Feb. 28 in North Oakville. The annual 5 km event supports youth prevention programs and weekly outreach for sheltered and unhoused families across Oakville and Halton.
Volunteer roles include everything from food service and route support to setup, teardown, and cheering on walkers. Both indoor and outdoor positions are available, making it easy to lend a hand in whatever way you're comfortable. More event details will be shared as the date approaches.

🧑🚒 Oakville Mourns Veteran Fire Captain
Hundreds gathered in Oakville on Dec. 27 to honour Capt. Stuart Campbell, a firefighter of over 30 years who passed away from occupational cancer on Dec. 21 at age 56. Remembered as a devoted husband, father & grandfather, and leader, Campbell spent most of his career at Fire Station 1 in Bronte, as a key member for hazardous materials response. His death is officially recognized as a line-of-duty loss, and he was given a full ceremonial farewell.
Firefighters from across Ontario, along with Halton police and paramedics, formed an honour guard as part of the memorial. His daughters spoke movingly about his humour, loyalty to family, and deep pride in his work. “He wholeheartedly loved helping others,” read a statement from his daughter Sierra. His name will be added to local and national firefighter memorials, ensuring his legacy of service lives on.
👗 Fashion Forward Helps Students Dress for Prom
Fashion Forward is a program that offers new and gently used formalwear at no charge, giving students across the HDSB the chance to pick out dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories in a friendly, welcoming space. Donations are being accepted until Friday, Jan. 23 at these schools in Oakville.
In March and April, students can visit Fashion Forward open houses to browse and try on outfits. They’ll just need to bring student ID, and there’s a quiet 30-minute window before each event for those who’d prefer a more private experience. It’s a thoughtful way to make sure everyone has the chance to feel confident and celebrated on their big day.
