A new $40 million building has opened at 265 Kerr Street, adding 52 affordable units for seniors in Oakville. While tenants began moving in back in June, officials from all levels of government gathered on Sept. 9 to mark the official opening. Halton Region contributed $16.4 million, with the rest coming from the provincial and federal governments.

The building includes 22 supportive units for seniors with health or mobility issues, plus a Community Wellness Hub run by Links2Care. The hub offers social, health, and recreation services for residents and neighbours. This is a welcome step forward, but with over 8,000 people on Halton’s housing wait-list, the need for more affordable homes is still urgent.button

Hexagon sous chef Victoria Rinsma will represent Canada at the S. Pellegrino Young Chef Academy grand finale in Milan this October. She earned her spot after winning the Canadian regional finals with a dish inspired by her grandmother’s East Coast cooking and her modern training at Oakville’s Michelin-starred restaurant.

Rinsma’s creation, “Across the Sea and Home Again,” blends tradition with innovation using ingredients like smoked ham hock chawanmushi and striped bass. She’ll compete against 14 top young chefs worldwide, aiming to impress a global jury with her technical skill and culinary vision.
