Refinance Mortgage or Second Mortgage?!
Since your mortgage renewal deserves more than a signature, one of the common questions is to either Refinance or consider a Second Mortgage to alleviate household debt or support other financial initiatives, if any.
1. Mortgage Refinancing:
A Single Larger loan to include Your First Mortgage with higher payment
May require Higher Qualification Criteria
May provide access to Full Home Equity up to 80%
2. Second Mortgage:
A Separate Loan in addition to Your First Mortgage
May require Lower Qualification Criteria
Rate is often Higher and Additional Fees may apply
May provide Partial Access to Home Equity

🛒 New Walmart Opens Soon

Source: oakvillenews.org
Walmart has confirmed its new store at South Oakville Centre will open to the public this Thursday, October 9, at 8am, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place just before doors open. This becomes Oakville’s second Walmart, joining the Trafalgar Road location that opened more than 20 years ago in the north end.
The store fills the long-vacant space left by Target’s closure in 2015 and spans over 100,000 square feet. It will offer everything from fresh produce and ready-to-eat meals to clothing, beauty products, and household goods. A solid comeback for the former Hopedale Mall’s east wing.
🔔 Winter Windrow Program Opens
Oakville is now accepting applications for its Windrow Snow Clearing Program, which helps remove snow piles left by plows at the end of driveways. The service is open to residents aged 65 and older, or those with disabilities or medical conditions that limit their ability to clear snow.
Registration opened October 1 and will remain available until program capacity is reached. The town offers this support each winter to improve safety and access for vulnerable residents during snow season.
🚶♂️ Oakville Friends Plan New Walk
A few weeks ago, we featured The Walkers, a local group of friends who conquered a 46 km trek from Oakville’s Millennium Clock Tower to the CN Tower. Now, they’re lacing up once again for their next challenge: a community walk on October 25 in support of the Fort York Food Bank.
This time, the group hopes to turn their adventure into something bigger, a community-wide walk that invites others to join in, connect, and support a meaningful cause. Known for blending fun, friendship, and purpose, The Walkers have also tackled the TTC’s Line 2 and a Yorkdale-to-Eaton Centre route, earning admiration online for their spirited sense of togetherness.

💧 Record Turnout at Water Festival
More than 4,000 elementary students from across Halton took part in this year’s Halton Children’s Water Festival at Kelso Conservation Area, marking the event’s largest turnout to date. Held from Sept. 23-26, the festival featured hands-on, curriculum-linked activities focused on water conservation, aquatic ecosystems, and, for the first time, climate change adaptation.
With 60 interactive stations led by 700 volunteers and 13 community groups, students explored everything from biodiversity to road salt runoff. Co-hosted by Conservation Halton and Halton Region, the festival has now reached nearly 60,000 students since its launch in 2006.
