🎆 Oakville Does Not Ban Fireworks.. Yet

Last Friday, we asked if fireworks should be banned in Oakville. Here's what you said:

Two days later, Town Council voted not to move forward with a ban… For now.

Instead, they’ve sent the proposal back to staff for more review. Despite the ban being generally popular (especially according to out poll), concerns were raised about enforcement, cultural traditions like Diwali, and the role fireworks play in bringing communities together.

Supporters of the ban cited safety risks, noise, and cleanup costs. But for now, the rules stay the same: fireworks are allowed on private property during designated holidays, including this Canada Day.

🎬 Sunset Kino Film Fest is Back

Canada’s only outdoor avant-garde film fest is back! Sunset Kino kicked off this week and continues every Thursday through July 17 at Gairloch Gardens, featuring bold, thought-provoking films by Canadian and international artists, all screened at sunset.

This year’s theme, “What Was That,” dives into identity, transformation, and global shifts; “Sunset Kino this year asks us to ponder how we are constantly needing to shift our perception of the world”. Whether you’re a movie buff or just looking for something to do on Thursday night, this is one of Oakville’s most unique summer experiences.

🚗 Parking in Oakville Gets an Upgrade

Good news: you’ll soon be able to tap your phone or card to pay for parking in downtown Oakville. Not as good news? It’ll cost you 25 percent more. The town is rolling out tap-to-pay this summer, with updates hitting all meters over the next few months.

Rates are rising from $1–$2 per hour to $1.25–$2.50, because convenience comes at a price. Don’t worry though, Sundays, holidays, and evenings after 6 p.m. are still free!

🍽️ Oakville’s Best Kids Menu

A few weeks ago, we shared how Visit Oakville is searching for the best kids' menu in town. Well, the votes are now in, and STACK BBQ Smokehouse has claimed the top spot in this season's Talk of the Town award.

Located in Oakville Place Mall, STACK earned praise for its kid-sized chicken fingers, creamy mac ’n cheese, and fun family atmosphere. Plus kids under 10 can eat free on Sundays.

🚧 Road Closures: McCraney & Oxford

From July 2 to August 29, McCraney Street East (Sixth Line to Montclair Dr.) and Oxford Avenue (Oakdale Dr. to Ringwood Rd.) will be closed for Halton Region water and wastewater upgrades.

Detours will run via McCraney East, Sewell Dr., Sixth Line, McCraney West, and Upper Middle Rd. Local access and driveways will stay open.
