Together with Making Waves Swim School
🌈 Big Milestones Start with Little Waves
Little Waves is where confidence begins. Designed for swimmers ages 2–5, this program focuses on comfort, independence, and foundational swim skills in a fun, supportive environment. Our experienced coaches use small-step teaching, encouragement, and repetition to help swimmers feel successful in the water.
Small class sizes mean your child gets the attention they need to build trust, learn safely, and celebrate small wins along the way. From putting their face in the water to floating and kicking independently, every lesson is a step forward.
Not sure if it’s the right fit? We make it easy to try. New families receive one free lesson, giving your swimmer a chance to experience our program and coaching style firsthand.
Little Waves is more than just lessons - it’s the start of a lifelong relationship with the water.
We’re Oakville’s largest newsletter with over 15,000 readers.
Let’s work together.

🛒 New Costco Opening Delayed
Oakville’s long anticipated Costco on Wyecroft Road is still moving ahead, but the timeline has shifted. As shared by Mayor Rob Burton, final site plan approval is now in place and demolition is underway, with construction expected this spring. The projected opening has been pushed to fall 2027.
The warehouse near Burloak Drive and the QEW will include over 1,000 parking spaces, including underground spots, accessible spaces, and bike parking. A gas bar is also planned at the northwest corner by South Service Road West and RioCan Boulevard. It is coming, just not as soon as many hoped.
🍔 RUDY Now Open In Oakville
After we first shared that Toronto favourite RUDY was headed to Oakvile, the doors are now officially open at 2501 Hyde Park Gate. The brand, founded by Luke McCann and Chris Simpson, arrived after Oakville locals pitched the franchise idea at just the right time.
The menu centres on fresh ground smash burgers like the Rude Dude, plus thin cut fries cooked in beef tallow, classic milkshakes, and house made banana pudding. It is the same simple, flavour first approach that built a following in Toronto, now landing right here at home.
🏚️ Push For Higher Heritage Fines
Oakville’s heritage fight is back in the spotlight after the 1830 Halfway House at 1475 Lakeshore Rd. E. was torn down last July. The designated home, once an inn halfway between Toronto and Hamilton, is now an empty lot listed for nearly $14.5 million, with court proceedings still underway and a pre trial set for April 27.
Oakville Historical Society vice president Janet Godber says the current $1 million maximum fine under the Ontario Heritage Act is simply too low, calling it “chump change.” Ward 3 Coun. Janet Haslett-Theall agrees stronger protection would help, while MPP Stephen Crawford says municipalities are responsible for enforcement.

🖤 Memorial Honours Oakville’s Black History
Oakville unveiled the Samuel and Martha Adams Memorial at Burnet Park on Feb. 21, recognizing the Adams family and the town’s Black community. The permanent installation marked the contributions of Samuel and Martha Adams, who arrived from Maryland around 1855 and became respected leaders in early Oakville.
Samuel built a successful blacksmith business in Bronte and helped launch the stonehooking industry on Lake Ontario. The family also supported Black settlers and helped establish Turner African Methodist Episcopal Church. The $265,000 memorial includes stones from the Adams family home, tying present day Oakville to its rich past.
🏒 Oakville Hockey Gives Back
Oakville’s hockey community helped deliver more than 1,300 pounds of equipment to Bearskin Lake First Nation, supporting young players in Northern Ontario. The Oakville Rangers, Oakville Hornets and Milton Winterhawks joined WestJet and Oakville Canadian Tire for the fifth year of the initiative.
The shipment included 13 full sets of gear and a skate sharpener, arriving in time for the Little Bands tournament in Dryden. For many remote communities, hockey is more than a sport, it is connection and opportunity. A strong assist from Oakville, and one that will make a real difference.
