Oakville council has hit pause on the $4.6 million Towne Square revitalization after local businesses raised concerns about a surprise construction timeline that would disrupt their operations through most of 2026. The updated schedule, revealed in September, included extensive excavation to replace the aging parking garage membrane beneath the square, requiring an 11-month closure starting in January.

Restaurants warned of major revenue losses due to the loss of patio season and visibility, while residents and the BIA flagged worries about noise, parking, and special events. Town staff will now explore phased construction, cost implications, and mitigation options, with an update expected by mid-2026.

Dunn Street will be closed between Lakeshore Road East and Robinson Street from October 14-17 and again October 20-21, daily from 7am to 7pm. The closure is to allow for rooftop steel and mechanical unit installation. Detours will direct traffic via Trafalgar Road, Lakeshore Road East, Thomas Street, and Robinson Street.

Oakville’s annual loose leaf collection program will run from Monday, October 27 to Friday, December 5 across designated neighbourhoods. Residents should place leaves on the boulevard or shoulder by 7am on the first day of their scheduled zone, keeping piles free of branches, garbage, or other debris.

To avoid missed pickups or blowing leaves, don’t put leaves out more than seven days early. Bagged leaf pickup continues separately through Halton Region’s waste service.
