🎄 Christmas Fun at Erchless Estate

The Oakville Museum has kicked off the holiday season with some really lovely events at Erchless Estate, and it’s all got a cozy, old-fashioned Christmas feel. The historic home is decorated top to bottom with Victorian trees, vintage toys, and twinkly lights, and they’re running guided tours Tuesday to Sunday between 1 and 4pm, plus it's pay-what-you-can, which is great.

There are also a bunch of special events for families and adults. Little ones can do crafts and a tour on Nov 28 or 29 (shown in the event section), and there’s a similar winter break version happening Dec 30 and Jan 2. Adults might like the Dec 6 “Tour and Treat” with warm drinks and festive snacks, or the cooking afternoon on Nov 29 (also in the events section) that’s all about comfort food and stories from Oakville’s past.

🎁 Holiday Lights and Toy Drive Return

Holiday Lights by the Lake is back at Coronation Park starting December 1, and this year there’s a new “Santa’s Reindeer Barn” display to check out. With more than 90 trees wrapped in lights, glowing pathways, and laser displays, the park turns into a pretty impressive holiday walk. It’s a nice way to enjoy the season, especially if you're looking for something festive to do outdoors.

Then on December 12 from 5-9pm, the Oakville Firefighters’ Drive-Thru Toy Drive returns to the park. You can drive through, take in the lights, drop off a new toy or gift card, and wave to Santa and Sparky the Fire Dog. They’re hoping for more gifts this year for newborns and teens, two groups that often get missed. If you can’t make the event, donations are being accepted at fire stations and other spots around town until December 18.

🧸 Have Your Say on Child Care

Halton Region is planning its next Early Learning and Child Care strategy for 2026–2030 and wants to hear from local parents and caregivers. If you’ve used child care or early years services in the region, you can share your feedback through an online survey open until December 19.

⛸️ Oakville’s Schizas Lands Top-5 in Finland

Oakville’s own Madeline Schizas placed fifth at an international figure skating event in Helsinki over the weekend, earning her best score of the season. Competing against some of the world’s top skaters, she delivered a standout short program on Friday that briefly had her in third place before finishing with a strong overall score of 188.60.

This competition was part of the ISU Grand Prix, a high-level series in the figure skating world. Schizas came within five points of the bronze medal and was one of several Canadians to place well. A solid finish for the 20-year-old, and another step forward in her skating career.

🎄 Bronte Tree Lighting Draws Holiday Crowd

Bronte Market Square was packed on Saturday, Nov. 23, as families gathered for the annual tree lighting, complete with wreath-making, live carols, and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Local shops like Blur Designs set up booths, and kids got to meet mascots and support the Salvation Army’s kettle campaign, all capped off with the tree lighting right at 5:30pm.
