🌿 Oakville Launches ‘Branches to Business’

Oakville has introduced a new program called Branches to Business, aimed at helping local companies grow through personalized support, funding tools, and easier access to key resources. Run by the Town’s Economic Development department, the initiative supports business retention and expansion with a focus on workforce development, scaling, and streamlining municipal processes.

The program is part of Oakville’s 2025-2029 Economic Development Plan and aligns with the town’s push to grow key sectors like life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and ICT. With job growth expected across several industries, this effort reflects Oakville’s commitment to being a business-friendly hub within the Toronto-Waterloo innovation corridor.

🛴 Police Launch E-Scooter Safety Campaign

Halton police have kicked off a social media campaign to educate the public on e-scooter safety and rules, following growing local interest and confusion around their use. The campaign features short videos aimed at riders, parents, and motorists, and highlights legal requirements under the Highway Traffic Act, such as speed limits, lighting, and helmet use.

Crucially, e-scooters are not permitted in Oakville, as the Town has not passed a by-law allowing them. Riders caught using e-scooters here could face fines, even if the scooter itself meets provincial standards.

🎄 Oakville Seniors Host Holiday Bazaars

Oakville’s Senior Services is bringing festive charm to three community centres this November with its annual holiday bazaars and craft markets. These cheerful events feature handmade goods, pre-loved treasures, and seasonal treats, all while supporting local older adult programs.

Shoppers can hunt for hidden gems at the Hidden Treasures Bazaar on Nov. 8 at Iroquois Ridge, browse artisan crafts at the Christmas at Colborne sale on Nov. 16, and wrap up their gift lists at the Trafalgar Park Bazaar on Nov. 29.

🏒 Firefighters Defeat Police in Charity Hockey Game

Oakville’s firefighters and Halton police hit the ice on October 2 for the Heroes On Ice Classic, a spirited charity hockey match at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Over 1,200 people attended the event, which raised more than $15,000 for Food4Kids Halton, a non-profit that provides weekend meals to local children facing food insecurity.

Organized by Queen’s University student Hunter MacKinnon, the game was part of a national initiative bringing communities together through sport. The Oakville Fire Department came out on top with a 10-5 win, but the real victory was the impact made for local families in need.
