🔀 Bronte Road One-Way May Stay

A 17-month experiment turning a stretch of Bronte Road into a one-way southbound route could soon become permanent. Town councillors will vote August 11 on whether to keep the configuration, which was introduced in March 2024 during construction at Bronte and Lakeshore. A new report says the change has cut collisions dramatically and reduced driver confusion at the tricky intersection.

Town staff and consultants found that traffic flow improved with northbound vehicles rerouted to nearby streets like Nelson and Jones, causing only minor peak-hour delays. Of 80 residents who gave feedback at a recent consultation, 80% supported keeping the one-way setup. If council agrees, the change will be baked into the Bronte Village streetscape redesign coming to a vote in September, with major road work set for 2027.

🛍️ No Tenant Yet for The Bay

Oakville residents still don’t know who will take over the former Hudson’s Bay space, which remains empty months after the iconic store closed. While Chinese-Canadian billionaire Ruby Liu has acquired leases for three Bay stores in B.C., Oakville was not included. Her company is still waiting on a court ruling for other locations in Ontario.

Liu says she’s aiming to bring retail innovation, but her broader bid to acquire 25 leases has faced pushback from landlords. With no official announcement for the Oakville site and the court decision expected later this month, the future of the property is still in limbo.

🎾 Oakville Teen Eyes Tennis Stardom

At just 16, Oakville’s Lily Rochon has already made waves on the national tennis scene, recently winning the 2025 U18 Fischer Outdoor Junior National Championship. Training six days a week since age six at the Ontario Racquet Club in Mississauga, she now hopes to follow the path of fellow Ontario teen Victoria Mboko, who reached the semifinals at this year’s National Bank Open.

Rochon’s resume includes U16 national titles and multiple U18 doubles championships, along with a standout performance at an international tournament in Mexico. Backed by coach Yves Boulais, she’s aiming for a U.S. Division 1 scholarship next, and ultimately, a pro career. A well-earned congrats to one of Oakville’s rising stars.

🗣️ Join the Oakville Youth Committee

The Town is now accepting applications for the Oakville Youth Action Committee (OYAC) for the 2025-2026 school year. Open to youth aged 13 to 18, OYAC gives students a chance to build leadership skills, earn volunteer hours, and help shape programs and events for Oakville’s youth community.

Members meet monthly at QEPCCC and take part in planning events like Youth Week, Oakville Youth Awards, and public art projects. The one-year term runs from September to June, with some extra meetings for special events. Applications are due by August 25, and only selected applicants will be contacted.
