🏗️ New 14-Tower Proposal in Midtown

source: oakville.ca

A new development with 14 towers between 35 and 48 storeys has been proposed for 420 South Service Rd. E. in Midtown Oakville. The plan includes nearly 7,000 residential units, over 9,000 square metres of commercial space, new parkland, and public areas. The site is currently home to the former GE Lamp Plant, a designated heritage building that may be moved and incorporated into the project.

This proposal is separate from the province’s Transit-Oriented Communities (TOC) plan for 11 taller towers nearby, which has faced strong opposition from residents. Oakville Town Council will review the new plan today at 6:30pm. Staff will consider height, density, traffic, infrastructure, and how the proposal fits with the town’s long-term vision for Midtown. Public and council feedback will also be part of the review process.

🎉 Oakville Drops Its 2025 Wrapped

Oakville recently dropped its “2025 Wrapped,” and the numbers show a town that was kept very busy. From 5 million transit rides, to 850,000 rec drop-ins, and over 59,000 people catching a show at the Oakville Centre. Even 647 couples made it official with marriage licences.

From roads resurfaced to packed programs, 2025 was packed full. Catch all the highlights in the full Instagram post. ⬇️

🌕 Snow Moon and Planet Parade Coming Soon

February’s full moon is called the Snow Moon, and it’s expected to put on quite a show this year. It will peak on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 5:09pm, glowing bright in the eastern sky after sunset. The name comes from old traditions linking February with heavy snowfall. Thanks to the cold, clear air and snow-covered ground, the moon often looks extra sharp and bright, making it a great night for stargazing or moonlit photos.

Then on Feb. 28, the sky gets even busier with a rare planetary parade. Six planets will be visible shortly after sunset. Venus, Jupiter and Saturn should be easy to spot, while Mercury, Uranus and Neptune might need binoculars or a telescope.

🎭 Oakville Theatres Win Big

Oakville’s two local theatre groups have earned their first BroadwayWorld Toronto Awards, celebrating standout productions from the past season. Burloak Theatre Group won seven awards, including Best Play for Sweat, which also picked up wins for acting, design, and sound. West End Studio Theatre won Best Direction for Twelve Angry Men, a show that’s been revived to sold-out crowds.

In total, the two groups received 35 nominations across four productions, all staged at the Oakville Centre. With WEST preparing God of Carnage for March and BOTG opening The Importance of Being Earnest next week, Oakville’s stage scene is thriving. A big congratulations to both groups on a well-earned spotlight.

🏒 Winter Classic Photo Gallery

Sixteen Mile Sports Complex and rinks across Oakville were packed this past weekend as the Oakville Rangers’ Winter Classic Tournament took over the town.

The event brought together teams from across the region in what the Rangers call the largest minor hockey tournament in Canada and second largest in the world.
