🎉 New Event Space Coming to Oakville

thealcoveoakville on Instagram

The Alcove, a 2,800 sq. ft. event venue opening this April at 358 Speers Road, brings a fresh new option for Oakville gatherings. With the space still under construction, photos are limited, but plans include high ceilings, large windows, and a bright, modern layout suited for everything from birthdays to business events.

Founded by a local husband-and-wife team, The Alcove was inspired by their own event planning experiences. Their goal is to offer an elegant, affordable space that makes hosting feel effortless and personal.

🥇 Farm Boy Launches Youth Sport Grant

Farm Boy has introduced a new “Feed The Dream” grant program, offering two $10,000 grants to Ontario youth passionate about sport. Timed with the lead-up to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, the initiative supports kids aged 5-16 who are currently enrolled in organized sports.

The funds can help cover everything from grocery costs to sports-related expenses. Oakville athletes can be nominated by a parent, coach, or mentor, with Olympians Renatta Fast and Ivanie Blondin backing the program as ambassadors.

🚔 Halton Police Open Teen Program

Halton Police are now accepting applications for their 2026 PEACE (Police Ethnic and Cultural Education) leadership program, which gives teens an inside look at police work while building important skills. The program includes hands-on sessions with the training bureau, K9, and forensic units, plus teamwork exercises based on real investigations.

Open to high school students aged 14-17 who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, the deadline to apply is Sunday, Jan. 21. A unique chance for local teens to explore law enforcement up close.

🛍️ White Oaks Students Build ‘HomeGrown’

Three White Oaks Secondary School students have launched HomeGrown, a new online platform connecting shoppers with local businesses across Halton. Grade 12 students Nabira Rashid, Maithili Rastogi, and Rebecca Fernandes were inspired after speaking with vendors at the Bronte Farmers Market, where they saw how often small businesses struggle to gain visibility online.

Initially developed for the Technovation Girls Hackathon, the project grew into a fully launched site with over 100 businesses and 700 users to date. With support from local officials and business groups, the students were recently recognized by the House of Commons for their impressive work!

🐾 Meet Neko, the Gentle Observer

hsomh.ca

Neko is a 4-year-old Domestic Short Hair with a quiet charm and a tender spirit. Though her past is a mystery, she's made it clear she's ready for a fresh start somewhere calm and comforting. A shy soul at heart, Neko prefers the safety of cozy corners and gentle company, especially in a home without the hustle and bustle of kids or crowds.

She’s the kind of cat who waits patiently for you to leave the room before enjoying her treat, and who slowly leans into affection once she knows she can trust you. If your idea of the perfect pet is a soft, steady presence who warms up in her own time, Neko might just be your kind of companion.
