🚦 Oakville’s New Transportation Plan

Oakville Council has approved the 2025 Transportation Master Plan, a sweeping strategy to guide how residents move through the town over the next 25 years. Replacing earlier plans, the TMP lays out a roadmap for a safer, more sustainable, and better-connected transportation network through to 2051, reflecting two years of public input, technical research, and policy reviews.

With over 300 recommendations, the plan aims to reduce car dependency by promoting transit, walking, cycling, and emerging technologies like e-scooters and autonomous vehicles. Key goals include improving safety, integrating land use and transportation, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions, all while preserving Oakville’s character. A timely step toward a healthier, more livable Oakville

📋 Licensing Changes for Small Businesses

Oakville Council has voted to eliminate municipal licensing requirements for seven types of businesses, aiming to cut red tape and reduce costs. As of Oct. 6, auctioneers, billiard halls, bowling alleys, laundromats, dry cleaners, and certain contractors will no longer need town-issued licenses. The change follows a staff review that found these businesses pose minimal risk and are already regulated by other laws.

The move is expected to save time and money for both the town and business owners, though it will reduce annual revenue by about $32,000. Mayor Rob Burton called it a “win-win,” highlighting that enforcement can now focus on higher-risk sectors. Businesses that prepaid for 2025 will receive partial refunds.

🏙️ New Rules for Building in Oakville

Oakville is creating a new system to make building and planning faster and easier in parts of town like Midtown Oakville and Bronte Village. Instead of filling out many forms and asking for different approvals, builders will just need one permit to move forward. This will help the town and builders work together to create more affordable homes, mixed-use spaces, and eco-friendly designs.

To learn more, you can attend an open house on October 22, 2025, from 6:30-8:30pm at Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Road). You’ll be able to ask questions, see draft plans, and give your opinion. The town is still working on these new rules and wants to hear from the community before anything is final.

⛸️ Kieran Thrasher Snags Second Silver

Source: oakvillenews.org

Oakville’s Kieran Thrasher and partner Jazmine Desrochers earned another silver medal at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Gdańsk, Poland, scoring 160.50 points. This marks their second silver in just a few weeks, following a strong showing in Bangkok, Thailand.

Their performance placed them between two Chinese pairs, finishing just behind the gold medalists but well ahead of third. It’s a strong finish to their Junior Grand Prix season and a proud moment for Oakville’s skating scene.

🏒 Six Oakville NHLers Ready to Hit the Ice

As the 2025-26 NHL season gets underway, six Oakville-born players are poised to make waves across the league. Among them are seasoned veterans like John Tavares, now entering his 17th season and freshly re-signed with the Leafs, and Evan Bouchard, who’s stepping into a leading defensive role with the Cup-hungry Oilers.

Rising stars are also in the spotlight. Luke Evangelista is looking to bounce back strong in Nashville, while Michael Misa, San Jose’s second overall pick, is already turning heads as a Calder contender. Calum Ritchie joins the Islanders with high expectations, and Scott Laughton returns to the Leafs lineup once healthy. Oakville’s hockey roots are shining strong this fall.
