🥯 A New Bagel Spot Comes to Oakville

Bagel Barn, a Burlington favourite known for its fresh, hand-rolled bagels, stacked sandwiches, and house-made spreads, is officially expanding to Oakville. The team shared the news on Instagram, confirming their second location will open at the corner of Trafalgar Road and Dundas Street. There’s no opening date yet, but they’re teasing more updates soon, so locals are being told to stay tuned.

🏆 Winter Classic Takes Over Oakville

From January 15–18, the Oakville Rangers Winter Classic will turn local rinks into a nonstop celebration of minor hockey. Nearly 500 teams from across Canada will play more than 1,000 games, making this the largest minor hockey tournament in the country and a true showcase of young talent, teamwork, and community spirit.

Beyond the games, the tournament brings a festival feel to town. The Hockey Village at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex will feature interactive activities, vendors, live music, and hockey history displays, while thousands of visiting families fill local hotels, restaurants, and shops, making it a big win for both hockey fans and the broader community.

🏒 Nominate Oakville for Kraft Hockeyville

Some more hockey news: Nominations are now open for the 20th anniversary of Kraft Hockeyville, a program that helps communities like Oakville fund much-needed arena upgrades.

With expanded prizes and more communities recognized than ever before, it’s a chance for locals to rally around the rinks that so many players, families, and fans call a second home.

🇨🇦 Oakville Roots on Olympic Ice

Oakville will be well represented when Canada’s women’s hockey team heads to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina. Brianne Jenner and Kristin O’Neill, both born in Oakville, have been named to the national roster, alongside Oakville Hornets alumni Sarah Fillier and Emma Maltais, four players with deep local ties skating on the sport’s biggest stage.

All four have been mainstays with Team Canada, bringing experience, leadership, and a history of big-game moments. As Canada looks to reclaim Olympic gold in what’s expected to be a tough tournament, especially against longtime rivals the U.S., it’s a proud reminder that local rinks can produce world-class talent.button

⛸️ Schizas Holds the Crown

Oakville’s Madeline Schizas claimed her fourth Canadian figure skating title this weekend, delivering a near-flawless free skate to surge from fourth place into first. Her performance locked in a winning total of 200.86 and reinforced her position as Canada’s top women’s singles skater heading toward the Milan–Cortina Olympics.

The win came under real pressure, with veteran skaters pushing hard and every point mattering. Schizas skated with confidence and grit, an impressive performance to make her home town proud.
