Why Residential Mortgage Rate Shopping?!
By considering a hypothetical scenario, let's see why are many saying that, and does it really make sense to do Rate Shopping?!
A- Your Mortgage: $350,000 Residential Mortgage with 20 Year Remaining has come for Renewal
B- Your Bank's Offer: Automatic Renewal for 5-Year Fixed at 4.50% Rate
C- Other Lender's Offer: 5-Year Fixed at 3.99% Rate - 0.51% Lower Than Your Bank
Yet, if You Switched:
1- $93 Monthly Less Payment
2- $5,600+ Improved Cashflow Over 5 Years
3- $8,800+ Less Interest Paid
4- Total Saving? - Over $14,000
If in doubt, or with your questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me!

🏗️ Oakville Eyes High-Rise Boom
Oakville is proposing a major condo development on its former public works site near Trafalgar and Dundas, with over 2,600 residential units in buildings as tall as 28 storeys. The 15-hectare lot would be split into five blocks with added roads, commercial spaces, a park, and 100 affordable housing units. But the plan has stirred up concerns about traffic, school crowding, and transparency, drawing nearly 900 petition signatures and vocal pushback at a June council meeting.
Unlike typical developer-led proposals, this project is being driven by the Oakville Municipal Development Corporation, a town-owned agency created to generate revenue by redeveloping surplus municipal lands. While some councillors argue this gives Oakville more control over outcomes, critics point to limited transparency, with no public access to board meetings or detailed plans. As questions grow about growth and governance, the town’s dual role as regulator and developer is drawing fresh scrutiny.
🗓️ Towne Square Redesign Meeting Set
The Town of Oakville is hosting a virtual meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 6:30-8pm to share early design ideas for the new Towne Square and hear what the community thinks. Town staff will walk through the latest plans to make the space more welcoming, better suited for events, and more connected to the look and feel of the updated downtown.

🎶 The Brant Inn’s Glamorous Legacy
Before Spencer Smith Park became Burlington’s lakeside landmark, the waterfront was home to the Brant Inn, a nightclub that once drew some of the world’s biggest stars. From the 1920s through the 1960s, names like Duke Ellington, Liberace, and Guy Lombardo performed here, while diners and dancers filled the famous Lido Deck and Sky Club that stretched out over Lake Ontario.
The Brant Inn wasn’t just entertainment, it was a place where Burlington glittered on the map, attracting visitors from Toronto, New York, and beyond. With its mix of live music, fine dining, and even Miss Canada pageants, it became a glamorous destination before closing in 1969. This story was carefully researched and written by Jennifer Kemp, a Burlington Historical Society volunteer with a lifelong passion for preserving Burlington’s history.
