🏆 Oakville to Host U-17 Hockey World Challenge
Oakville will welcome the hockey world this fall as the Sixteen-Mile Sports Complex hosts the 2026 World U-17 Hockey Challenge from November 1-7. The international tournament is a key stepping stone in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence, spotlighting the best under-17 players as they take their first strides on the global stage. Past alumni include NHL stars like Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Macklin Celebrini.
Chosen for its top-tier facilities and strong community support, Oakville will once again be a stage for international talent. With teams from the USA, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, and across Canada, the tournament offers a rare chance to watch future NHL stars compete right here at home. Many of the players lacing up this fall could be household names in just a few years.
🍔 RUDY Smash Burgers Opening in Oakville
A new RUDY burger location is set to open in Oakville in early February, bringing the Southern Ontario smash burger chain to 2501 Hyde Park Gate near Dundas and Winston Churchill. The franchise is co-owned by Oakville-raised entrepreneur Tom Labenski, who calls RUDY’s double “Rude Dude” burger the best he’s ever had.
Known for its simple menu, scratch-made recipes, and burgers ground fresh twice daily, RUDY has built a loyal following since first launching in Toronto. With a Burlington location already under their belt, Labenski and his team are now focused on bringing top-tier burgers, poutine, and banana pudding to their hometown crowd.
🚧 Weekend GO Train Disruptions in Oakville
Oakville GO commuters should expect major weekend service changes starting tomorrow, as Metrolinx carries out critical track work and replaces the Etobicoke Creek bridge. These changes affect both the Jan. 17-18 and Jan. 24-25 weekends, with normal weekday service running in between. Late-night trains running tonight will also be impacted.
During these weekends, no GO trains will run between Oakville GO and Mimico GO. Trains will continue between Niagara Falls and Oakville, while special hourly trains run from Mimico to Union. Replacement buses will operate express from Oakville and Clarkson GO to Union Station Bus Terminal. Riders heading to or from Port Credit and Long Branch will need to use local transit like the TTC.

🎁 GIVEOakville Raises Over $900K for Local Charities

OCF picture
The 2025 GIVEOakville campaign brought in $916,227 for more than 65 local charities, showing once again how generous Oakville can be. Run by the Oakville Community Foundation, the annual campaign makes it easy to give through one simple platform, with every dollar going straight to the charities thanks to no transaction fees and extra top-up support from The Foundation.
New features in this year's campaign included the ability to donate by cause and contribute year-round to the GIVEOakville Fund. Since launching in 2019, GIVEOakville has raised over $5 million!
The Oakville Digest is proud to have teamed up with the OCF to spread the word about this amazing initiative, and whether you donated, volunteered, or simply helped spread the word, we want to say thank you to every reader who helped make this happen.
