Sheridan College has been named Canada’s top college for artificial intelligence research partnerships and second for completed AI research projects, according to Research Infosource Inc. The rankings, released in the annual Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges list, mark the first time AI-specific categories were included. Sheridan’s strong performance highlights its national leadership in ethical, applied, and industry-driven AI innovation.

Locally, Sheridan moved up to fourth in Ontario and 11th nationally among all research colleges, with standout student involvement and community collaboration. Oakville projects include a VR experience with the Oakville Community Foundation that visualizes climate change impacts and a smart tech tool aiding breast cancer recovery. Sheridan’s rapid rise reflects a deep investment in real-world impact and hands-on learning for students.

Canada’s men’s soccer team will face Switzerland, Qatar, and potentially Italy in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with group stage matches set for Toronto and Vancouver. Canada opens June 12 at BMO Field against a European qualifier, which could be Italy, depending on playoff results in March. The team then travels to Vancouver to face Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24.

Ranked 27th, Canada enters its third World Cup seeking a historic first win. If the team tops its group, it could remain in Vancouver through the early knockout rounds. Canada last played Switzerland in 2002 and Qatar in 2022, winning both matches. With 13 matches hosted on home soil, fans across the country will be watching closely to see how far the “People’s Team” can go.

Oakville’s first Civitan Holiday Farmer’s Market drew a crowd of nearly 4,000 to Dorval Crossing East Plaza on Nov. 29, blending festive fun with a powerful show of community generosity. Visitors enjoyed live music, warm dishes like dim sum, and photos with Santa and Olaf, all while contributing to a major food drive for Kerr Street Mission.

In total, nearly 5,000 pounds of food were collected, including a standout 4,300-pound donation from TK Fresh Produce. Organized by Civitan member John DiLorito, the contribution marked one of the largest in KSM’s history. With music, good cheer, and meaningful impact, this new event made an unforgettable debut.
