🏗️ Sixteen Mile Hub Taking Shape
We recently shared news about the upcoming opening of Oakville’s Sixteen Mile Community Centre and Library, and with the March 31 launch approaching, the project is starting to look very real. A new Instagram post from the Town of Oakville shows fresh progress photos as the massive space comes together inside.
The 65,000 sq. ft. hub at 3070 Neyagawa Blvd will bring aquatics, fitness, and recreation together with an 18,000 sq. ft. Oakville Public Library branch. With programs starting in April and more amenities arriving through the summer, Oakville’s newest community space is nearly ready for its first visitors.
🎉 Oakville BIAs Plan Busy Year
Oakville council has approved more than $2.1 million in 2026 funding for the town’s three Business Improvement Areas. The budgets support marketing, beautification, and the events that bring people into Downtown Oakville, Bronte Village, and Kerr Village throughout the year.
Downtown Oakville — $1.27M
Seasonal photo pop ups will return for Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day, followed by the Summer Festival in July. Fall brings back Acorn Fest, while the holiday season wraps up with Light Up the Night and Hometown Holiday celebrations.
Bronte Village — $399K
Bronte’s Farmers’ Market returns for its third year with a nine week summer run and a Halloween themed market in October. The Bronte Lake Notes concert series, Dominican Bachata dance nights, and the annual tree lighting will also return, along with dozens of community events.
Kerr Village — $471K
Kerr Village will once again take part in Taste of Oakville, host Kerrfest and Kerrfest Kids in September, and bring back holiday favourites like the tree lighting and Elf on the Shelf Treasure Hunt.
🏒 Tarantino Returns To Blades
The Oakville Blades have hired Mike Tarantino as their new head coach and general manager, bringing a familiar face back to the organization. Tarantino previously helped lead the junior hockey club to the 2019 Buckland Cup, the Ontario Junior Hockey League championship, before leaving in 2019.
Since then, he joined the Collingwood Blues and built one of the OJHL’s most successful programs, winning two more Buckland Cups and the Centennial Cup, Canada’s national Junior A championship. The Oakville native now returns to help rebuild the Blades after several challenging seasons.

📸 Pet Calendar Contest Returns
Got a photogenic pet? The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton is now accepting photo entries for its 2027 pet calendar, with proceeds supporting the shelter’s programs and services.
Submissions are open until March 26, and voting runs through April 24. Each $1 vote supports animals in care, and the top 13 pets will earn a spot in next year’s calendar, including one lucky cover star. Cute pets for a good cause.
❄️ Halton Police Take Polar Plunge
More than 80 people braved icy water this week as Halton Regional Police hosted their second annual Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Ontario. Officers, staff, and volunteers took turns jumping into a tank of freezing water outside police headquarters.
The event aimed to raise $10,000 but surpassed that goal, contributing to programs that support more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes across the province. Some participants even added flair with belly flops and backflips into the icy tank. Cold water, warm hearts.
