🎃 Halloween Acorn Fest Hits Oakville

Acorn Fest is back this Saturday with a spooky twist, turning Towne Square into a Halloween hub from 12-6pm. The day kicks off with a costume contest for both people and pets at noon, with a $100 prize on the line. From salsa dancing with City Dance Corps to a magic show and a live set by Supersonic Hearts Band, there’s a full lineup of eerie entertainment.

Families can also enjoy roaming musicians, stilt walkers, and treats from local favourites like Croissant Express, Pizzaiolo, and Second Cup. Even dogs get pampered with puppuccinos, barkcuterie, and puppy manicures. With button making, dog art stations, and plenty of food and fun, Oakville’s biggest acorn is hosting one of its most festive events yet.

🏘️ Oakville Launches Housing Policy Survey

For the first time, Oakville is crafting its own local housing policies and is inviting residents to share their input through a short online survey. The new policies will be part of the town’s Official Plan under the Housing Strategy and Action Plan, aimed at creating more affordable homes faster.

Previously, housing policy was handled at the regional level, but Oakville is now taking the lead with its own direction. The survey takes about five minutes to complete and is open until Friday, November 7.

💰 Key Dates for Oakville’s 2026 Budget

Oakville’s draft 2026 budget process is officially underway, with staff directed to prepare an operating budget reflecting a tax levy increase of up to 3.5%. Residents will have several chances to follow developments and share their views as the process unfolds.

The draft will be presented October 21 and 23, with public consultations running October 24 to November 26. Key meetings follow in November and December, leading to a final council vote on December 15.

🍎 Five Oakville Teachers Win National Award

Source: oakvillenews.org

Five Oakville educators have earned the 2025 Prime Minister’s Award, Canada’s top honour in teaching, recognizing excellence in innovation and student impact. Winners include Scott Pollock and Aaron Warner from St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School, Kevin Carter from Brookdale Public School, Phi Tran from Eastview Public School, and Vittorio Iafrate from Thomas A. Blakelock High School.

Out of 70 awards nationwide, Oakville’s five recipients reflect the town’s strong commitment to educational excellence. From digital innovation to inclusive learning and STEM inspiration, each teacher brings a unique spark to the classroom that leaves a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike.

🗣️ Oakville Therapist Wins $10K for Inclusive Clinic

Tess Mayne, a registered speech-language pathologist in Oakville, has received a $10,000 RBC Rock My Business Youth Entrepreneur Award to grow her private clinic, Words Plus. The practice, which opened in January, supports neurodiverse children, especially those using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

With nearly 15 years in the public sector, Mayne launched the clinic to meet a growing local need for specialized and affirming care. She plans to invest the award into AAC tools, staff, and student mentorship, building a practice where every child has a voice.
