🏗️ Updates for Midtown Plan

Source: insidehalton.com
The province is preparing a new development proposal for the area around Oakville GO, but it won’t match the town’s more gradual Midtown plan. The earlier version included 11 towers up to 59 storeys with nearly 7,000 homes on just 4.9 hectares, which many felt was too much for the space and local services to handle.
Oakville’s own plan covers a much larger area, spreading growth more evenly through 2081. Local leaders say they welcome new housing but want it to fit responsibly with the community’s needs. The province promises its updated plan this fall will add housing and public amenities, though it’s not yet clear how closely it will reflect Oakville’s vision.
💧 Province Backs Sixth Line Stormwater Project
Oakville has secured $3.2 million from the province to cover most of the cost of a new stormwater pipe along Sixth Line, part of a $4.5 million widening project. The upgrade will add nearly 2.4 km of new sewer infrastructure to better handle heavy rainfall and improve drainage north of Dundas Street.
The system will also support future housing, including about 340 new homes in the area, with 278 planned for 2026. Local and provincial leaders say the investment will boost resilience to severe weather while ensuring growth is supported by strong infrastructure.

🌰 Oakville’s First Acorn Fest Draws a Crowd

Downtown Oakville was packed this past weekend for the debut of Acorn Fest, a new fall celebration that featured live music, family activities, local food, and an 8-by-6-foot acorn as the centerpiece. Festivities began Friday evening with a concert and outdoor movie screening.
On Saturday, the fun continued with line dancing, storytime, stilt walkers, and a performance by Jade Hilton, along with plenty of food and vendors. Organizers say the turnout exceeded expectations, and many hope Acorn Fest becomes an annual tradition.
🍟 Just Braise Wins Oakville’s Best Poutine
Oakville food lovers have crowned Just Braise Sandwiches as the winner of Visit Oakville’s “Talk of the Town” award for Best Poutine. Located at Dundas and Neyagawa, the spot is known for bold twists on the Canadian classic, from Smoky BBQ to All Day Breakfast and the fully loaded “Make it Braised.”
Runners-up in the top five included STACK BBQ Smokehouse, Plank, New York Fries at Oakville Place, and The Firehall. Visit Oakville hosts these community-voted contests every three months to spotlight local businesses.
