Together With Making Waves Swim School!
Summer Starts in the Pool ☀️🏊♀️
Summer registration is now open, and there’s no better time to keep your swimmer active, confident, and progressing all season long. Our Summer session runs from June 29th to September 4th, offering consistent weekly lessons that help swimmers maintain skills, build strength, and stay water-safe throughout the summer months.
At Making Waves, we believe progress doesn’t take a summer break. With warm pools, small class sizes, and experienced coaches, swimmers continue moving forward in a fun, supportive environment families trust.
Looking for a faster boost? Our Summer Accelerated programs are a favourite for busy summer schedules. These intensive programs run Monday to Friday for two weeks, with daily 30-minute lessons designed to jump-start skills, build confidence quickly, and create noticeable progress in a short time.
We offer programs for every stage, including Parent & Tot (2–30 months), Little Waves (2–5 years), and Big Waves (6+).

Let’s work together.

Midtown Plan Moves Ahead 🏙️

image from oakvilletoc.ca
The province is moving ahead with a dense Midtown Oakville redevelopment, issuing four minister’s zoning orders to approve 6,881 homes on a 4.9-hectare site near the GO station.
The plan includes 11 residential towers and aims to build a transit-focused community with amenities and public space. It follows council’s rejection of a similar proposal over concerns about traffic, infrastructure, and setting a precedent for the broader Midtown area.
Although the orders allow buildings up to 56 storeys, the province says it will work with Oakville to lower heights to 38 storeys without reducing unit count. That balance remains controversial, with We Love Oakville arguing the density is still too high and could come at the cost of greenspace or livability.
Town leaders say they will push for the lower height cap as discussions continue, but the project is now firmly moving forward.
Beloved Bakery Eyes New Owners 🍰

Black Forest Pastry Shop at 184 Lakeshore Rd E
After more than two decades as a downtown Oakville staple, the couple behind Black Forest Pastry Shop are preparing to step away.
John and Marzena Ziemba, who opened the bakery in 2003, say they are planning to retire and are now searching for the right buyer to carry on the business. Known for its Black Forest cake and ever-popular chocolate fudge cake, the shop has become a go-to for birthdays, holidays, and everyday treats, with generations of Oakville families walking through its doors.
Ziemba, a baker for over 40 years, says the shop’s success has always come down to quality and connection. From perfecting butter tarts to chatting with regulars while baking on-site, the experience has been as much about people as pastries.
The couple says they are in no rush to sell, hoping to find someone who will keep the same warm, community feel that has defined the bakery for 24 years.
Around The Bay Draws Thousands 🏃
Around 10,000 runners took part in the Around the Bay Road Race on Sunday, as the historic event once again looped around Hamilton Harbour.
First held in 1894, the race began near Pier 4 Park in Hamilton and carried runners along the waterfront toward Burlington, with all distances finishing on Discovery Drive.
Participants chose from 5K, 10K, 15K, and the signature 30K race, with staggered starts beginning at 9:10am.
The event continued its long-standing support of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, with more than 170 hospital staff joining the run. It made for a busy morning along the waterfront, with plenty of local runners in the mix.

Oakville Approves Veteran Banners 🇨🇦
Oakville council has approved a new program to honour local veterans with commemorative banners installed ahead of Remembrance Day.
The $9,000 initiative will see four poppy-themed banners placed near each of the town’s three cenotaphs, displayed for about four weeks from mid-October to mid-November starting in 2026. Annual maintenance is expected to cost about $3,600.
Council also asked staff to explore a second phase featuring banners with names and photos of deceased veterans across areas like Downtown Oakville, Kerr Street, Bronte, and local legion sites.
Costs for that expansion will come during the 2027 budget, with input from local historical groups helping shape the design. A visible tribute like this should stand out across town as November approaches.
Bouchard Hits Oilers Milestone 🏒
Oakville’s Evan Bouchard has etched his name into Edmonton Oilers history, becoming just the second defenceman to reach 90 points in a single season. He hit the mark during a game against the San Jose Sharks, assisting on a powerplay goal by Connor McDavid. Bouchard now sits at 91 points, including an impressive 70 assists.
The only other Oilers defenceman to do it was Hall of Famer Paul Coffey, who reached the milestone four times. With the playoffs approaching and a return to the Stanley Cup Finals in sight, Bouchard’s timing could not be better, and it is a milestone many in Oakville will be proud to see him reach.
