Oakville GO Renovations 🚉

u/Metro62 in r/gotransit

Major renovations are expected to begin soon at Oakville GO Station, with plans aimed at improving capacity and comfort for one of the busiest stops on the Lakeshore West line.

Upgrades include new platform canopies and heated shelters, a pedestrian bridge linking all platforms to the parking garage, added elevators and stair access, six new bus platforms, secure bike storage, and a refreshed station building and parking lot.

Online reaction has been mixed. Many daily riders welcomed better access, especially the added elevators and long-requested pedestrian bridge, along with heated shelters for winter commuting.

Others questioned whether the scale of upgrades matches current needs, pointing instead to issues like crowding, long exit times at peak hours, and a desire for improved service frequency over station redesigns. A few summed it up simply, it looks great on paper, but they’ll believe it when construction actually gets underway.

Dundas & Sixth Plan 🏗️

Concept art for the proposed development | MHBC Planning report

A 691-unit development is proposed for the northwest corner of Dundas Street West and Sixth Line, with town staff recommending approval.

Plans include three eight-storey buildings, one nine-storey building, townhouses, and retail space, with construction phased over time. The project also features parking for residents and visitors, along with 356 bike spaces.

The proposal goes to council April 20 and has drawn mixed feedback. Some residents worry about losing green space and added traffic near Isaac Park, while staff say studies show impacts can be managed as development continues along Dundas.

Kindergarten Survey Open In Halton 📝

Halton parents are being asked to share their experiences through the 2026 Kindergarten Parent Survey, open until May 1st.

Led by Our Kids Network alongside regional and school board partners, the survey targets families with Senior Kindergarten students and aims to gather insights on early learning, health, and family life across the community.

The feedback helps shape local programs and services, with more than 17,000 responses collected since 2003. Results have already pointed to strong early experiences, including high enjoyment of school among students, and continue to guide planning across education and community services in Halton.

Douglas Nets First NHL Goal 🎉

Oakville native Curtis Douglas scored his first NHL goal Sunday night with the Vancouver Canucks, finishing a loose puck in Anaheim for a moment years in the making.

The 6'9" forward admitted he “blacked out” after the goal, soaking in the reaction from teammates who celebrated just as hard for him as their own tallies.

Drafted in 2018, Douglas bounced through multiple organizations before finding a fit in Vancouver, where he’s now played 12 games and carved out a role with his physical presence.

After nearly a decade of persistence, the milestone finally arrived, a well-earned moment for one of Oakville’s own, congratulations to him on sticking with it.

Meet Moomoo The Shepherd 🐾

Moomoo is a three-year-old German Shepherd looking for a fresh start after her previous owners could no longer care for her.

She’s a friendly, people-loving dog who thrives on attention, enjoys car rides, and never says no to a good game of fetch. She’s crate trained, house trained, and eager to learn, though she’s still working on leash manners and can be a bit vocal when she wants attention.

She would do best in a home with older kids, direct outdoor access, and no other dogs, with adopters ready to continue her training. Moomoo is currently on a special diet to support weight loss, with guidance provided. For the right home, she’s a loyal companion just waiting to settle in.
